Yong-en Care Centre is a community service in Singapore that helps with supporting the needs of the elderly, disadvantaged individuals, children and youth, and families in Chinatown and beyond.
As part of their annual year-end charity campaign, “With Love, Chinatown”, Yong-en has created an illustrated calendar with artworks from 10 different illustrators in Singapore.
The given theme for the artwork was “Community”, where the artists were tasked to incorporate Yong-en’s vision, mission and services into this vibrant neighbourhood of Singapore, Chinatown.
This is a voluntary project with illustrators agreed to volunteer and do a part for the community.

Artist thoughts on Chinatown:
Rojak, Provision Store, Vibrant and Lively Community - these are some of the words that I summarise how I always feel when I’m in Chinatown. Just like Rojak, it’s a blend of traditional and modern culture; Provision Store because this place is a big organised mess but yet so beautiful and flavourful, and with some effort you may find interesting findings within; Vibrant and Lively because of the people in Chinatown.
Within these thoughts, I will like to reflect the “beautiful organise mess” in the artwork, build up with relatable elements and cute little elements for audiences to pick up when they look through the artwork.
